Favourite-Popular kits?

Postby Ang » Mon Mar 14, 2011 12:19 am

Hello ladies,
It's been a while for me but I'm thinking about getting back into reborning. I have a couple of kits half done from ages ago, and I am going to get them finished before buying more kits.

I'm really wondering what are your favourite kits/artists at the moment? I gave up for a while and I feel a bit lost

Thanks in advance x
Hugs

crikey chick there are floods of great kits about at the moment. They have developed sooo much from dolly looking to real baby looking with heaps of detail. Walter by Tuzio ross is a popular ikkle chap and sells well. Marita winters has some beautiful kits out. The prices are heaps more than a few years ago mind. You would pay top of about £30 for a good kit, now that is up to £70,s for most by the time you have added post and even more if from US. It is still the same, you tend to get what you pay for. Keep your eyes peeled on the ebay for the occasional bargin is my advice. xx

Anything made by Little dreams collection (LDC) at the moment, the vinyl is tip top. Noah by Reva Schick is a LDC vinyl by the way.
I have gone off Bountiful baby kits these days. They are good when starting out, but they are mainly doll looking in my opinion now.
Seems to be Stoete kits & Yarie kits are popular at the moment.

I too have just rediscovered the art of reborning after a three year gap (following the birth of my little girl). Boy, have the kits shot up in price! I still had a few untouched kits tucked away and decided to get back into it one day. I successfully sold those (Taffy -Secrist, Morgan - Peterson, Ember - Edenholm) and started looking around for some kits to restock but have quickly discovered that if I'm going to cover my costs, I'm going to have to seriously raise the price of the completed doll!

Eventually, I bought some kits on sale from Bountiful Baby (which was my first port of call when I started reborning) but by the time you've placed the 'minimum order value' then paid shipping and customs, it still averages £40-£50 per kit.

The reborning world has moved on in lots of other ways too, I've found - there are a growing number of bigger babies and toddlers now - are they popular? I've bought myself a 9-month old 'Kitten' and a toddler 'Tessa' (both on sale from BB) but I'm working up to them! I think the smaller, preemie and newborn babies still seem to be popular possibly because they take up less space? Do they tend to be more affordable, too? I'm sure the bigger babies will take longer to complete and will certainly cost more in materials.

And there seems to be a trend developing in 'gothic' dolls - people adding fangs to create vampire babies, etc. I'd like to try my hand at these little monster babies, but will need to practise my sculpting skills. Are these quite popular?

Then there's the animals - lots of gorillas! Are these popular? I don't much fancy this branch of reborning, though I can see the appeal of collecting them - they are cute!!! And it seems to be a growing trend - in the last fortnight I've also noticed puppies! Bountiful Baby is releasing a vinyl Pug and on ebay there is a seller auctioning a Chinese Crested clay reborn puppy - according to the listing, this is their second reborn - the first was a Boxer pup. But I think I'll stick with babies, at least for the moment...or until someone releases a cat sculpt!

I'm really interested in the answer to this question because, as a newbie, I am practising on a couple of cheaper kits at the moment, but hope to graduate to the better ones before too long. There seem to be so many babies on Ebay made from the Luca sculpt that I would probably avoid this, pretty as it is. I HATE the gorilla ones - what are they about - but each to their own.
