Assembling my first reborn...help please :)

Usually the original vinyl body is replaced with a soft stuffed and weighted body. What do you use in your bodies?

Assembling my first reborn...help please :)

Hi Guys

OK...I am about to assemble my very first reborn....soooo exciting!! i just want to check first about the weighting materials.

I have ordered a weighting pack from Lillian Trigg which contains the following:

plastic pellets
ultra fine glass
tender touch (baby fat?)
super poly
virgin fibre

I think I know where everything goes, but please could someone else tell me in case I got it wrong.

Thanks in advance....can't wait to get this bit done :yahoo:

I fill the limbs 2/3 of the way with glass sand (or 1/2 of you want a lighter baby) then stuff well with the poly filling. The head I again use glass sand, a pouch at the back of the head, then fill with poly filling again. The body I put a pouch of tender touch baby fat in the bum, some people use a pouch in the tummy also... for the weight, I tend to use steel shot, but glass sand works as well.. you can use polypellets but they don't weigh so much - it just personal preference really - I like heavy babies!! Put a pouch of whatever you choose in the centre and surround it well with virgin fibre. Hope this helps!

hi, i do pretty much the same as fiona!
i always use glass to weight my body just 1 bag in the centre surrounded by fibre fill and baby fat in the bum

also i put fibrefilling in the shoulder and top of the leg then make a little hole in the centre and add a few pollypellets
then add a little more fibre filling so you can't feel the pollypellets inside the shoulder of the body

hope this helps

Thanks Swiftcrafter

I guess everybody just finds the right way for them, huh? I am using a Berenguer doll with full limbs, so I shouldn't need to put anything extra at the joints, should I? Also, I don't have any plugs for the limbs. Do you glue felt over the end or anything?

Yep gluea small square of white or flesh coloured felt over the limbs to seal them.
Wait till glue is dry then cut round the limb to remove excess felt.

i normally put mine in a plastic bag (like a sandwich bag) then seal it and put that inside a stocking!
putting it in the stocking stops the plastic bag ruffling when baby is moved
